ED@WORK: GA PLANNING ASSOCIATION

ATLANTA,GA-On April 18th, Out of Hand traveled to the annual conference of the Georgia Planning Association at Georgia Tech to have discussions about racial equity with city leaders and architects as a part of the Equitable Dinners at Work series.

The play presented during this event was A Few Honest Moments with Sam by Minka Wiltz, with actress Angela Ray performing in front of approximately 250 guests. For those unfamiliar, the play follows an African-American therapy patient recounting her experience with microaggressions throughout her life as she processes her diagnosis of depression.

After the play, guests and facilitators discussed the themes and reactions to the play, and how conversations around racial equity can play a significant role in how counties and districts can be better updated to accommodate all of the residents. According to some of the guests, these conversations are already taking place during their meetings in-person and online.

The conversations held during this edition of Equitable Dinners at Work showed that these subjects are being discussed in rooms and spaces that matter the most and that by continuing this conversation with city planners from other regions, racial equity can become a topic of discussion when reimagining the future of the communities of Georgia and beyond.
