Masterclass Breakdown
Jan 11 Viewpoints and Composition Fundamentals Ð Ariel/Adam
The 1st Master Class will introduce or serve as refresher course in Viewpoints, a set of 9 principles for training performers, building ensemble and creating movement for the stage, and Composition, a method for creating new work quickly as a group. Both will get you out of your head, awaken your creative energy, and get you working with strangers as though youÕve known them all your life.
Jan 18 Compositions w/ Grab Bag - Ariel
The 2nd Master Class will focus on open Viewpoints sessions and a full-out Composition created in groups from the contents of a Grab Bag containing a variety of surprise objects. The Viewpoints heighten physical awareness, reflexes and precision, and Compositions tap our deep collective well of creativity.
Jan 25 Gestural Language - Adam
The 3rd Masterclass will focus on the gestural method of story telling that began with Colombina and Peirrot of the Commedia and is used by clowns and physical theatre artists today. Learn ways to change perspective, play inanimate objects and create clear, dynamic visual images through gesture.
Feb 1 Buffoon Ð Adam
The 4th Master Class will focus on Buffoon, the grotesque styling of clown championed by Jacque Lecoq. Buffoons travel in tight groups with strict hierarchies, they have a direct link to the divine, and they mock humanity, whom they regard as disgusting, absurd and dangerous.
Feb 8 Making The SHOW! - Barry
The 5th Master Class will focus on the creation of Out Of HandÕs upcoming late night offering The Show, a Freak-peep Carnival Side Show. The Show revels in secrets and lies, the grotesque and awe-inspiring, and the sexy, scary other world behind the world. The Show is never the same show twice because the audience runs the show.
The 6th Master Class is part 2 of the creation of Out Of HandÕs upcoming late night offering The Show, a Freak-peep Carnival Side Show. The Show revels in secrets and lies, the grotesque and awe-inspiring, and the sexy, scary other world behind the world. The Show is never the same show twice because the audience runs the show.
Feb 22 Writing for Compositions - Ariel
The 7th Master Class will focus on writing techniques for quickly generating raw material for the stage. Groups will then make Compositions using their writing, along with other parameters including the Viewpoints and music. These writing techniques are designed first turn off your self-editor and free your creative mind, to edit your own work deftly, and then to quickly edit collective work within a group.
Mar 1 Creating Rituals - Adam
The 8th Master Class will focus on creating rituals of the mundane for the stage. These rituals are an extension of the Buffoon style, but have applications in all sorts of theatre making. Rituals are a particular favorite of Out of Hand.
